About the job
The ICRC Communication Unit seeks a highly skilled and motivated Public Relations Officer to join our dynamic team in Kyiv. In this important role, you will help shape the delegation’s messaging and content strategy to enhance its public profile across media and public channels. You will work closely with local media, serve as the ICRC’s spokesperson in Ukraine, and provide strategic advice on public communication matters. Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting the implementation of public engagement and digital communication strategies.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a public communication plan and ensure it is implemented
- Develop strategies for promoting the ICRC’s activities to the media and maintain regular contacts with editors and correspondents
- Develop, strengthen, and regularly map a network of media and journalists
- Act as a spokesperson on behalf of the ICRC in Ukraine, with a focus namely on local media
- Organize and manage media events and field trips when required and feasible
- Draft news releases and update press lines
- Oversee production of the delegation's public communication materials
- Contribute to developing communication material, campaigns, and tools to raise awareness about humanitarian issues through various means
- Provide coaching and guidance on public communication to colleagues

About you
To be successful as a Public Relations Officer in the Communication Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:
- Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
- A university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Communication Management, Public Relations, or a related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Ukrainian
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a strong familiarity with digital communication tools
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a communication-related role, with a minimum of 2-3 years focused on media relations and content creation
- Previous experience with a humanitarian organization is preferred (ICRC experience is an advantage)
- Strong public communication skills with a deep understanding of the media landscape
- Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
- Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
