About us:
ActionAid is a global federation working for a world free from poverty and injustice. ActionAid’s Regional Office for Eastern Europe was established in Kyiv in 2022 and is covering projects in Ukraine, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Georgia. ActionAid works through a wide range of local partner organisations in the nexus, prioritising young people’s leadership, civil society development, women’s rights and leadership, the protection of at-risk groups and minorities, as well as humanitarian assistance.
The Role:
The Junior Communication Officer will support social media management, content creation, and digital engagement to strengthen ActionAid Ukraine’s online presence. This role is ideal for a young Ukrainian professional with a passion for digital storytelling, social justice, and humanitarian issues.
The role is based in Kyiv and reports to TBD or the Head of Programmes, with a secondary line to the Regional Communications Advisor. The role works closely with the Programmes Team based in Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Romania and Spain.
Tasks and Priorities
1) Social Media Management (30%)
- Manage AA Ukraine’s social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, potentially others) to increase reach, engagement, and follower growth.
- Develop and schedule daily social media posts in alignment with AA’s tone, values, and campaigns, also liaising closely with global comms colleagues.
- Monitor engagement and interactions, responding to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner.
- Track performance metrics and provide monthly analytics reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.
2) Content Creation & Storytelling (30%)
- Design engaging graphics, visuals, and infographics for digital use, ensuring ActionAid’s brand consistency.
- Draft compelling social media captions, blogs, and short articles highlighting AA’s impact.
- Capture and edit short-form videos and photos from field activities for social media storytelling, from both Ukraine and occasionally neighbouring countries.
- Support the production of newsletters and other communication materials.
- Support AA’s comms teams when visiting and organise content gathering trips.
3) Campaigns & Digital Engagement (20%)
- Assist in planning and executing digital advocacy campaigns aligned with AA’s humanitarian and women’s rights related goals (such as for the 16 Days of Violence Against Women and other global events).
- Engage with partner organisations, influencers, and activists to amplify key messages.
- Identify trending topics and digital opportunities to enhance AA’s social media strategy.
4) Media & Communications Support (20%)
- Maintain and update the media contact database.
- Assist in drafting press releases, statements, and media briefings, liaising closely with the General Secretatiat’s, IHART’s, and ActionAid Spain’s comms and media teams.
- Support event coverage, including live social media updates and post-event content development.

Who we're looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree (or ongoing studies) in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Marketing, or a related field.
- Strong experience managing social media platforms for an non-governmental organisations, campaign, or initiative.
- Experience in working for local or international NGOs in Comms, and a strong understanding of comms (and it’s objectives, uses, and particularities) in the context of non-governmental organisations.
- Experience in content generation for Instagram and LinkedIn, and the ability to produce targeted posts for different key audiences
- Basic knowledge of graphic design (Canva, Adobe tools) and video editing (CapCut, Premiere Pro, or similar).
- Excellent writing skills in Ukrainian and English.
- Passion for human rights, gender equality, and humanitarian work.
- Sensitivity when working with at-risk populations.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills: tact, patience, diplomacy, confidentiality, and appropriate assertiveness when communicating with donors and partners.
- Consultative and empowering working style and willingness to learn from others.
